Linum usitatissimum, commonly known as Flax, is grown worldwide in temperate regions for food and fiber, yielding linen textiles and linseed oil. Originally domesticated from Linum bienne, it's now exclusively a crop. Various Linum species with different flower colors exist. Cultivated flax reaches 1.2 m in height, with slender stems, green leaves, and 15–25 mm flowers in white, blue, yellow, or red. Its fruit is a 5–9 mm dry capsule with glossy brown, apple pip-shaped seeds.
