Musa acuminata, an herbaceous perennial, features a non-tree trunk formed by tightly packed leaf sheaths. Its leaves can reach 22 feet in length and 39 inches in width. In one inflorescence, white to yellowish-white flowers of both genders coexist. The fruits are berries, their size varying with seed count. These seeds, small and hard, yield edible starchy pulp. Most cultivated varieties, like the Cavendish subgroup, are triploid and seedless.
