The yellow bee-pollinated plant, Mimulus guttatus, also known as seep monkeyflower, serves as a model organism for studying evolution, genetics, and ecology, especially plant-insect interactions. It defends against herbivores using trichomes. This highly variable species ranges from 10 to 80 cm in height, with tubular yellow flowers, and can take different forms. Its leaves are opposite, toothed or lobed, and it typically produces bright yellow flowers on racemes with five or more blooms.
